FoodRX Packing
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Food Rx collaborates with hospitals and medical clinics to treat at-risk patients through healthy food “prescriptions”. When patients screen positive for food insecurity, they are provided with a take-home bag of nutritious, shelf-stable food at discharge, along with information on additional health resources. FoodRX also facilitates home delivery to clients. To simplify food selection, clients are offered the option of selecting a variety of carefully crafted pre-packed boxes of healthy, shelf-stable food, nutrition education materials, and a list of kit-specific meal ideas.
The food in these bags is purchased specifically for this program. Volunteers will help set up, assemble and package the bags/boxes, and assist with project breakdown.
BEFORE ARRIVING:
ALL volunteers MUST wear closed-toe shoes (i.e. sneakers) for safety. Volunteers wearing open-toe shoes will not be allowed to volunteer. Recommended attire includes shirts with sleeves (no tank-tops), and jeans or shorts of appropriate length.
